It’s Halloween! Your students will have fun playing bingo, Snap, memory games and other games with this resource. x30 Bingo Cards numbered 1 to 30 - 12 pictures on each card All the bingo cards are different. It can be played as a whole class or in small groups. Children can dab or cross off pictures that they have with a dry-wipe pen or place a counter on their pictures. 36 Calling cards with words and pictures. Snap! – Make extra copies of the calling cards for students to play Snap! Memory Match Game: Photocopy two sets and then lay out a selection of the cards face down on the table. Players take turns to pick up two cards. If the cards match, the player keeps the two. If the two cards do not match, the player returns the cards to the same position they were in face down. The players have to try and remember where the cards are. This resource focuses on the legend of Saint Patrick and myths. The PowerPoint Presentation includes whole class activities and there are questions at the end of the presentation. Children are encouraged to participate in discussion about the different myths and legends in relation to St Patrick/St Patrick’s Day. The resource contains:- 32 Slides PowerPoint Presentation Flexible detailed lesson plans covering 2 lessons (includes learning objectives and plenaries/closing session). Each PowerPoint slide is referred to in the lesson plans. Lesson 1: Children link the shamrock St Patrick is holding to Irish myths, including leprechaun costumes that they might see on St Patrick’s Day celebrations. Learn the difference between myths and legends. They look at mythical beasts and describing words and phrases. Differentiated worksheets - With support - LA draw their own picture of Cyclops and label the parts with adjectives. MA/HA - Draw own picture of Cyclops or create their own mythical creature and label it with adjectives and and use simple sentences to describe in more detail, e.g. its body was as big as a house. Extension: Complete Patrick’s Day Factsheet (colour in/4 questions). Lesson 2: Previous is lesson reviewed. This lesson focuses on the retelling of myths and sequencing events. Three mythical stories on PowerPoint are read out and children decide which one they like better and what makes them interesting. Discuss what happened at the beginning, middle and end of the stories. Differentiated Activity 1 - Lower Ability children cut out and sequence three pictures and write a simple sentence below each picture called St. Patrick and the Serpent. Middle Ability - Cut out sentences and glue below the correct pictures to tell the story of St Patrick and the Serpent . High Ability - Retell legend of St Patrick and the Serpent. First they draft and then write out neatly. Early finishers: Draw or find a picture of a person whom they regard as a legend and write why. Differentiated cut and paste activity with Answer Sheet Students cut out the description for each candle and glue next to the correct candle. One page of cut and paste sheet has a picture of the candles. Also included are a set of 5 information cards which you can laminate and place on students’ table to help them complete the cut and paste activity. This resource relates to Would you rather questions. Children must choose one of the questions posed and have the option of saying why they chose that answer. There are a set of worksheets with follow-up activities and Would You Rather … cards. You can use: before the main lesson as a fun activity, fill in extra time use in circle time/citizenship use as a back to school activity to create conversation use it as a way to get children talking and listening. Some of questions are funny, silly and make children thing about serious issues in a light-hearted way. Optional: You can make a booklet for each child by stapling the edges. • Follow the Path Activity (x2) – Children use a crayon at the start of a pathway. They can use different colors to make a rainbow path. • Christmas Story Reading on PowerPoint – You can read the story aloud first and then ask children to summarize the story. You can then give out the various differentiated activities for children to do. • Worksheet – Children draw on the gift boxes three presents they would give to Jesus After reading the Christmas story, children can complete the following sequencing activities. Either you or the children can cut out the sequencing wheel and cover. • Story Wheel Sequencing – Children cut out the pictures and glue them in order in each of the segments to tell the Christmas story. This resource contains a variety of nativity puzzles and games such as word searches, crossword, word scramble to reinforce children’s knowledge of the birth of Jesus. Content: Nativity Puzzle 1 - There are 9 pieces for children to cut out and glue correctly onto a separate sheet of paper. Nativity Puzzle 2 - This sheet already has two puzzle pieces. Children finish off the puzzle using the other 7 pieces. Nativity Scene (x2) - Children write a caption for the picture and then colour in. One sheet contains handwriting lines. Worksheet - contains 8 mini word search strips. Children look at the picture and then shade in the word they find. This resource can complement your work about Christmas or use it as a review/additional work to consolidate students’ knowledge about the birth of Jesus. Content: A. The Christmas story is told simply and can be used in guided reading. • Reading passage with pictures subdivided under three headings with reading comprehension questions. Paragraph 1: The Angel Visits Mary – 3 questions. Paragraph 2: Jesus is Born – 3 questions. Paragraph 3: The Shepherds and the Wise Men – 3 questions. B. This resource relates to Canadian currency - nickels, dimes, quarters and dollars (loonies). The worksheets are in colour and black and white. WITH ANSWER SHEETS Each of the four worksheets contain a variety of tasks for students to complete on the topic of buying school supplies/stationery. Worksheet 1 - Students look at the pictures and price of each item and then work out how much two items of school supplies cost. Two questions at the bottom: Which student spent the most? Which student spent the least amount of money? Worksheet 2 - This worksheet is similar to the above except students are working out what 3 items of school supplies cost. Worksheet 3 - Students answer 6 questions about the items, e.g. Which item is the most expensive? How much less do the crayons cost than the ruler? The next task is to write the new price for each item which has risen by 10c. Worksheet 4 - The first task is to write the new price of the items which have risen by 20c. Second task - to add up 3 items of school supplies at the new price. Worksheet 5 - Sale Now On! - Students reduce the price of each item by 5 cents. They then recalculate the items of stationery bought (subtraction) **Additional worksheets: ** Drawing coins to match the price tags - Students use the fewest number of coins as many times as they can. Add coins and write the total on the price tag for each object shown. Challenge: Students add up all the prices on the tags and write the total amount of money spent.
